The Big Boathouse
340 Reeves Road, Mathews, VA
OUR STORY

I bought this house when my oldest son was born. Now he's 24, and my youngest son is 21. We still enjoy it with family and friends, of course with ever increasing time between visits. With high school and college, and all of the activities of life, it has become clear that it's time for other families to enjoy some of the same experiences we have.

When I was a young boy, my family rented places every summer in Mathews County, Virginia, on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Those experiences created memories that I will never forget, and led me to decide very early on, that one day I would have a house of my very own in this sacred place.

It's hard to describe the peace that this place has brought me, through all the trials and hurdles of life. But the pictures should give you a taste. There's a lot to do, but the experiences are unique for each person.

Some like to fish, others like to crab, some like to swim, others choose to sail, seadoo, or boat, and others elect to soak in the sun. But evenings were always filled with awesome dinners, games, and deep sleep in preparation for another busy day.

You really can't put it into words...you have to experience it, and create your own memories. After all, they are unique for each of us.
Why is it called the "Big Boathouse"? When my oldest was an infant, he had a little boat that he played with in the tub. So, our home in Richmond was called the little boathouse, and the place where we kept the Grady White was called the Big Boathouse. His cute perspective stuck with me.
